NEW UPDATE: In case you didn’t know, the ‘Berlin Fiction Writers Unite’ meetup is a fantastic way to reach out and stay in touch with other writers living in Berlin. Our next session will take place on March 30, 11-1pm. Are you around during this time? If so, you are more than welcome to come along and check us out. Now meeting every two weeks!

[Updated: March 2019]

Dear fiction writers,

Seems like our little meetings are going from strength to strength lately! Very happy to see both new and returning faces to the sessions – long may that continue.

The aim of this group is to create an informal space to chat about ongoing work, share resources, discuss issues you may be having with your writing, or to simply brag about your success – anything goes (as long as it’s connected with fiction writing).

We also try to set time aside for “Read Aloud” sessions… for those that don’t know, this is where a writer reads aloud an excerpt from their work to get feedback from other writers. We’ve also started a new thing lately where a writer can ask another to read aloud a piece, just to hear what their work sounds like with another voice – completely up to you though.
If you are interested in taking part, keep in mind that we have a max 3-page or 1,500 words limit. Please also bring either paper copies (avg. 10), or upload your work to Dropbox at FictionWritersBerlin@gmail.com // PW: Berlin1974, so others can follow along [Danger, Will Robinson: Dropbox is public – if you want to use it, you do so at your own risk. I do not accept responsibility for any loss or damages as a result of use].

New Idea: Read Aloud sessions are not just limited to your own work! We also encourage you to bring along excerpts from external works you think are impactful. This is a great way to learn from others.

New Idea: Workshops – We might introduce some topic workshops in the near future. This would involve inviting experts/experienced writers to talk about areas such as plot development, editing process, how to get published, etc… If you know of anyone that might be interested in doing this, please get in touch with me and we can discuss privately, or as part of the group. Payment for guest experts is a possibility!

Don’t worry though if you are not ready to share your work – come along anyway. You can give the other writers some feedback on their work, or just stay for the chat and the chance to meet other writers like you. Oh, and emphasis is on fiction writing, and all work must be in English.

Hope to see you at our next session. As always, happy writing!
Shane.
